We have all been influenced by other builders, and all of us have our hero's but how often do we get a chance to express that?? Well maybe it's time for some acknowledgements, for my part the following individuals have had a tremendous influence on my building and my passion for guitars: William Cumpiano - Who's bible of building gave me headaches for months with the amount of information but became an invaluable resource for building (it still is in some ways) Mark Swan - Who has insight on a number of issues and took the time on another forum a number of years ago to answer the questions of a total newbie :) The one and only Mario - He's edgy, grumpy and funny all at the same time but also has provided a wealth of information that I have absorbed over the years. I do my bracings with CF laminations because of Mario ;) MIMF (and all it's members) - When I first started and before this forum came along I spent countless hours searching out solutions to problems, it really gave me a start in the right direction. Kathy Wingert - I really can't say enough good things about Kathy, she's given this beginner more than enough talks about things to look out for, she has always been kind and taken the time when I needed it to offer her experience and advice. Mike Doolin - Stunning guitars and never short on good solid advice, I made KTM-9 work because of mike and was able to build my first fanned fret with some good solid advice he gave me ;) Paul Woolson - Who makes me laugh and is a killer builder, I steal his jig ideas when he's not looking. He's always around for questions and advice and he's truly a nice guy ;) John Mayes - Who also makes me laugh and is a super talented builder, I'm still intending on building some ukes once I get going again and John's the reason for that. And of course Lance, who had the foresight to put this forum up and keep it a community, I guess that would include all good people who post here and are so generous with their skills and talents. If I left anyone it was not on purpose but I am the builder I am today because of all of you... So from the bottom of my heart.. Thank You.. -Paul- |

DAVIS! You steel my jig ideas? That does it, we're finished. Don't ever call here again! Well, unless you really want to, then it's ok. We're all about the love here. I've got lots of influences as well. Ok, Davis would be on my list. Even though he's a theif! He and Michelle took me under their wing and really took care of me at HLDSBRG last summer. It felt great. John Mayes has helped me a lot. And I highly admire his work. Charles Fox: I'll be in debt to him until the day I die. Pretty much every other builder that is better than me (which is pretty much all of you) for setting the bar a little higher and making me work a little harder. Without that push this might get boring. Lance and Brock for keeping this thing running so well day in and day out. It usually keeps me from having to face reality first thing in the morning. Thanks |

It's kind of disturbing that you called for a standing "OVATION"! What does an ovation have to do with luthiery? ![]() |

Wow, that's a great Idea there Paul I would have to start with Jim Olson, His work has influenced my passion for building. I've spooken with him a few times and he is (as most builders are) very generous with his wisdom. Bill Cumpiano's book as well (I'm sure there are thousands who would say this). Websites: Charlie Hoffman, who has posted almost the entire building process, with pictures. Dennis Scannal True North Guitars (I still want that name some day) who has also posted almost the entire building process and who's work is just so superb. Mario Proulx (How do you pronounce your last name anyway?) For your continued commitment to the building community on first the MIMF (must have several thousand posts over there) and also here at the OLF. All the members of the MIMF where I like most of you old timers here spent most of my working hours...er spare time reading and digesting everything in the archive library. So I would have to say thank you to Deb Suran for hosting such an increadible resource. And all the members here at the OLF who support in more ways than just building guitars. This is truly the largest family I've ever seen. Thank you all, like Paul, I'm only able to create what I can because of your generousity. |

Rod-- In your signature line, don't fail to mention "Western Hemisphere". Put it there between "North America" and "Earth". That should just about cover it. ![]() |

For me, I would give kudos to Dave Skowron first and foremost, if it were not for the 13th fret I never would have made it through my first few guitars. From that resource I received help and support from some of the best builders of today. Mark Blanchard (who remains my #1 favorite and most influential and inspirational builder) Matt Gage for allowing me to latch on to him for everything! ![]() Hank for being so cool, McCollum (the original Lance as he likes to remind me ![]() There are more, these names just come to mind quickly. |
Mario Proulx (How do you pronounce your last name anyway?)
I think it rhymes with Poo (another cuddly Bear) ![]() Big standing ovation (as opposed to bowl backed Ovation) for Lance for making this possible and everyone here that so freely shares their knowledge and experience and provide continuing inspiration with the instuments they build and show ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Mine are Charlie Hoffman, Kathy Matsushita, Dave Painter and last but not least, Mr Grumpy ! They were so much help even if they didn't know they were helping me, Mario has the biggest influence regarding the lutherie approach, i just love the way he says KISS when in fact he sure puts a lot of thought in everything he does. ![]() These people helped for the first one with their websites displaying so much information that i have to say thank you for the rest of my life. Now that i'm working on #2 and # 3, i have to give my community a huge thank you for the encouragement and support that you're showing me every day, it feels so great to be kind of monitored and sometimes supervised by people who've been there and done that, i feel less alone with my mistakes. My woodworking skills are improving every day, thanks to you guys! Finally, a big thanks to Lance and Brock but also a word of encouragement for them to keep on doing a great job with our forum, it's been said so many times that we have the greatest place but i'm a compulsive guy so thank you both again, and again and again! Lord I could make a list a mile long, but instead I give my standing ovation to Brock and Lance for creating and maintaining the wonderful community we call the OLF and my ever grateful thanks to Don Williams for leading me here. |

I would be lost without the advice of Al Carruth. I'm lucky he only lives an hour away. Rod. You might as well add The Solar Sytem, Milky Way Galaxy. |
